FAQ

Do offer “free” therapy?

Although it is in our name, we do not offer free therapy. Each of our clinicians charge at their own rate. Visit Meet Our Team page to see which of our mental health professionals is the right fit for you.

Do you accept insurance?

We do not take insurance so that we can offer you the highest privacy. Our practice is built with the intention and focus on helping individuals heal from traumatic and difficult experiences. This can often include sensitive material you do not wish your insurance company to have, such as access to your diagnosis or ability to review your notes/charts. Some insurance companies additionally dictate frequency, modalities and length of appointments. At Free Indeed Therapy, we want you to be the director of your own treatment.

We can offer you a Superbill (an invoice) which you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Can I learn from a book instead?

While books provide helpful information and are often used to supplement material learned in therapy, they are crafted for a wide array of audiences rather than tailored to your individual needs. Therefore, they are limited in what they can provide.

Individual therapy is able to dive in deeper to address underlying dysfunctional thoughts influencing specific behaviors and/or emotions you exhibit. Together you and your therapist can craft a plan using an evidenced based treatment modality you are comfortable with to help you reach your identified goals.

What can I expect?

The first session will be dedicated to getting to know one another. Your therapist will ask questions about what sparked your interest in therapy, symptoms you are experiencing, background information and goals you want to work towards. After your therapist has completed the assessment, together you will discuss evidenced based treatment options that can assist you in reaching your goals.

I like to think of the therapeutic process as us going on a journey. You have the map and know where you want to go, your therapist helps guide the way.

What is the typical length & frequency of sessions?

Sessions are typically 50-55 minutes in length. Initially your therapist will ask you to attend either weekly or semi-monthly sessions depending on need. As you progress in treatment and feel you are achieving your goals, appointments may reduce to monthly for check-ins. However, this is tailored to the individual person.

It typically takes 6-8 sessions before you begin to notice progress/change. The more effort you put into your treatment and willingness to participate, the more you will get out of therapy.

Do you offer telehealth/ virtual visits?

Yes, we do! You must be in Texas at the time of your appointment.

What is the cancellation policy?

We require a full 24-hour notice for cancellations. If the appointment is on a Monday, then we require notification the Friday prior, which is a 72-hour notice. Missed or late cancelled appointments will result in charging your credit card on file for the full session fee. Unfortunately, we cannot make exceptions to this policy.

We do realize that at times a “no-show” or cancellation with less than 24-hour notice will be necessary. However, for the reasons below, we unfortunately do not allow exceptions to this policy:

  1. compensation for our time is how we provide for our families;
  2. forcing your counselor into a parental or authority position, having to decide the merits of a particular situation, can affect your therapeutic relationship and impact our ability to work together as equals on the road to self improvement;
  3. with enough advanced notice we can often fill your reserved time, but without it we cannot;
  4. learning to live within boundaries and the emotions that come with those boundaries are a very important part of the therapy process.
What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards, Flexible Savings Plans and Health Savings Plans. We require a valid credit card number to schedule an appointment.

Do I have to disclose my medical history?

Knowing your medical history is key to helping you. We need to know if you have underlying health issues, if you take medication and whether you have been previously treated for a behavioral health concern. Completing your new client paperwork thoroughly is an important first step and your information is protected under HIPAA privacy laws.

Do you offer childcare?

Unfortunately, we do not offer childcare. If you do not have childcare, please reschedule your appointment.

Can I bring my pets to my appointments?

Unfortunately, our building does not allow animals, with the exception of service animals for disabled persons.

Are my sessions confidential?

Each counselor’s informed consent provides the details of confidentiality. By state laws, we are bound to confidentiality. However, there are exceptions:

  1. if you express the desire to harm yourself or others;
  2. if you discuss the abuse or neglect of a child, elder or vulnerable person;
  3. if there is a court order/subpoena.
Are you available after hours or for emergencies?

We neither offer 24/7 mental health services nor do we offer emergency services. If you are having a mental health emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
